What is the DUOLINGO?
The Duolingo English Test is a language proficiency tool designed for international students and institutions. It offers an English proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample in an accessible, efficient, and secure testing experience.
Who takes the DUOLINGO?
It is taken by test takers who are seeking admission in international universities.
What is the structure of DUOLINGO?
It is an adaptive test. The tests includes:
• Listening to spoken words and selecting the real ones
• Reviewing written words and selecting the real ones
• Completing missing letters from a text
• Describing an image in writing or aloud
• Recording yourself saying a written sentence
• Verbally answering a spoken question
• Responding in writing to a written question (writing samples have a maximum of 500 words but are usually much shorter)
• Typing out a statement that you hear
In addition to the above items, Duolingo includes a “video interview” section of the exam, in which you speak for 1-3 minutes on a topic you choose (they offer two).This is upgraded and scores are submitted to universities.
Test consists of three skill areas of Quantitative reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Analytical Writing:
- One ‘Analyze an Issue’ task and One ‘Analyze and Argument’ task
- 60 minutes(30 minutes per task)

What is considered a good score on the DUOLINGO?
Once the exam is over, the candidate receives a score from 10-160. This is a complete score and not section-wise scores. Usually, top programs ask for a score of more than 120.
How soon test scores are available after a student completes the duolingo?
Test scores are available within 2 days .
Are DUOLINGO scores automatically sent to colleges?
Once you receive certified test results ,you can log into your account ,click on the ‘’send results’’ button next to your test results ,and select which institutions you would like to send scores to.
Are there any prerequisites for the DUOLINGO?
There are no official prerequisites for the DUOLINGO.
How long before the DUOLINGO should I study?
It is recommended that DUOLINGO test takers study for at least 6 to 8 weeks prior to the intended test date. A study habit of 10 to 15 hours per week is suggested, minimum of 5 hours per week.
You need to prepare yourself for taking the Duolingo exam. You should work on improving all the aspects of reading and listening. You can listen to English podcasts and read articles from top magazines and newspapers and also practice by having a conversation in English with native English speakers.
